It was such a fun exhilarating day when we picked our first harvest. Not only did we have the experienced international pickers whose call of "more buckets, more buckets" rang in my ears all day, with our team of largely first timers ran to keep up, taking off nets, emptying the buckets and getting the grapes into bins.
It was an unusual harvest, I am told, as both the shiraz grapes and cabernet sauvignon grapes ripened at the same time. So over two days 9 acres of vines were picked. 16.5 tonnes it was a bumper season, which by all accounts we will not see again as the rain fall that year and temperatures were especially kind.
